Join Us For A Columbus Zoo Outing

When: Saturday, August 5th, 2017

Zoo Hours: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Where: Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 4850 Powell Rd, Powell, OH 43065

Join us on August 5th for a day at the Columbus Zoo! Admission will be provided (free of charge) for individuals with spina bifida and their immediate families. Water park passes (Zoombezi Bay) will also be available for purchase at a reduced rate of $11 per person. You are free to join us anytime during the day, but please note the zoo hours are 9am to 7pm. We will provide lunch in an air conditioned pavilion for all attendees. More details will be provided when you RSVP.

Local Spotlight

Miami Valley Adapted Sports is a 501(c)3 Paralympic Sports Club that works through cooperative partnerships to provide recreational and competitive sporting opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities. MVAS provides programs that promote physical fitness, character building and friendship. MVAS advocates for equal opportunities for disabled individuals through education, training and networking.

Currently wheelchair basketball is the main program they offer, but they are looking to start other programs that may include sledge hockey, swimming, power soccer and rugby.

Junior Raptors – Competitive traveling team. Players must be 8–18 years old or still in high school.

Miami Valley Raptors – Competitive traveling team for ages 16 and up.

Recreation Program – A time to get together and have fun on the court without being competitive.

Our Fall Get-Together will be at Young’s Jersey Dairy on Saturday, September 23rd. Save the date! More details to come.

Spring Bowling Party

We were thrilled to host over 50 people at the spring bowling event on March 19. If you weren’t able to make it, we hope you’ll join us at another event!

GreeneBucs AmTrykes

The GreeneBucs chapter of Ambucs is focused on providing help and support for children with disabilities. Specifically, they provide AmTryke Theraputic Tricycles to children in Ohio who cannot use traditional bicycles. AmTrykes feature hand controls and “pedals” which allow children with disabilities the freedom of mobility.

Equipment Assistance Request Form

The Purpose of this program is to help offset expenses incurred by individuals with Spina Bifida or their families. (See application form below.)

Guidelines

Participation in fundraising events is encouraged
Applications are available from the address listed below or by calling (937)236-1122
The fund covers only expenses for Spina Bifida that have not been paid for out of any state aid, insurance or other funding source
Completed applications must be accompanied by copies of itemized bills or prescriptions, and insurance allowance or denial statements
All information is considered confidential
Grants are subject to the availabilty of funds

Items Covered (Examples)

Orthopedic equipment (crutches, brace, walkers, shoes, wheelchairs)
Urinary and bowel control supplies (gloves, lubricant, catheters)
Home & vehicle modifications
Other medical expenses not covered by insurance or state agencies
Adapted recreational equipment
Other Needed services
